Visitor To Lead Sale Process – Semantic Mastery Training

Visit http://semanticmastery.com/news-and-media/
for the rest of the transcript:

For those who have little or no experience with the visitor-to-lead-to-sale process, why is it so important?
Okay, so let’s say you finally have all your ducks in a row and you’re starting to draw traffic to your website.
Do you know how much traffic is enough for your money/client site to be profitable?
That’s a good question… why don’t you tell me more about this?
For many of us, the problem is that we concentrate so much of our effort and resources on ranking our money/client sites that might overlook or we might not devote enough time on thinking about what happens once a visitor lands on our website.
So, the visitor lands on the website, fills out the form, and goes into our sales funnel, right?
That’s a loaded question because the answer is yes and no.
Yes, in a fantasy world where everything goes just the way we want it to, someone goes to a search engine page, conducts a search, clicks on our website, lands on our page, and fills out the contact form.
But we don’t live in a fantasy world. So that’s not how it happens.
How does the process take place?
There are several components in this intricate process, and we can speak volumes about each one since there is no single factor which we can say is more important than the other. We build each component so that everything works as a unit.
During our training, we will break down the different components and talk about each one. However, in the end, if one of the components is broken, the entire process is broken. It could very well come down to the mental attitude of the person answering the phone for you or your client.
Why does the mental attitude of the person answering the phone matter?
It matters because studies have shown that people can “sense” mental attitude and perhaps even body language through the phone. If you have a person who doesn’t really want to be there answering the phone, the person on the other end can pick that up and will probably end up elsewhere.
As they say, the devil is in the details!
Okay, can you give us more details?
Yes, of course, let me give you some basic numbers to think about:
You have followed our training, and you are finally getting steady traffic on your website. Let’s say you’re getting 30 visits per day, on average.
This means approximately 900 visitors per month, but do you know your bounce rate?
If your money/client site has an 80% bounce rate, then you have 180 people who actually interacted with your website or web page in some kind of way.
What this means is that you actually have 6 people per day who might have taken the sort of action on the site (not necessarily converting from visitor to lead) but interacting with the website.
The obvious question here is “what’s the visitor to lead conversion rate?” Am I right?
Yes, absolutely… This is a “must know” in this process. The average conversion rate for a retail/ecommerce website is ONLY 3%. If a website isn’t optimized for visitor to lead conversion, it’s probably around 1%, and likely much lower.
But we’ll pick 2% for our purposes (yes, it’s arbitrary), which is the mid-point between 1% and 3%.
Simple math tells me that 180 x 2% = 3.6; meaning that 3.6 people took the action you wanted on the website, but this is not the number of people who actually purchased your product or service!
So now this goes further down the sales funnel and closing leads?
Right again! You have to be aware of every single step in your visitor-to-lead-to-sale process.
Let’s say your closing rate is only 10%. This means that you are going to have to wait 3 months to make your first sale (on average), or you’re going to make a sale and then you’ll have to wait 3 months to make another, again, on average. And even if your closing rate is at 30%, you are only going to make 1 sale per month.
That won’t make anyone’s money/client site profitable!
It is not going to be profitable, and it will make for a very angry customer or it will lead to your financial ruin. You cannot work with numbers such as those and expect to survive in a cutthroat business such as the web.
So what can our students expect in this training series?
In this series, we will go from very basic concepts to intricate ideas that will make any website perform much better and make a lot more money!
For example, we will cover writing ad copy.

Semantic Mastery Training Overview

Semantic Mastery Training Overview – http://semanticmastery.com

1. What is Semantic Mastery all about?

As an SEO professional servicing clients or even maintaining your own web properties, it’s difficult to test all of the theories, software, and services available. It’s difficult because:

One — It’s time consuming and we’re usually busy working on client properties or managing our own sites.

Two — It’s risky to try new ideas and services without knowing for certain if they’re safe. In other words, you don’t want to test something on a site that is already doing well because it could end up causing more harm than good.

So that leaves us in a catch 22 situation. We want to test new ideas and strategies but usually don’t have the time to properly setup test environments for each of these.

That’s where Semantic Mastery comes in. We are a team of web professionals that have come together to provide real world case studies where we test all of these things and document the entire process.

2. What are we going to be sharing with our members to help them be better SEO agents?

Well our case studies are huge in that we provide all of the testing on our own web properties.

Let’s put it like this, we all get marketed to all the time with new training offers, magic button software, and services promising that they’re the last you’ll ever need.

They all claim to be must haves and have very convincing pitches.

So what we do is, select the most promising of all of these and put them to the test.

For example, we may be testing a backlinking strategy, software, or service. In this case, we would setup several web properties and try to make them relatively identical. Then we test each of these methods on separate sites and document the process so that we can share the results and let our members decide for themselves which products and/or services they want to use based on those test results.

This way we are doing the testing and taking the chances, not you. We will be conducting these tests for both local and national terms so that no matter what line of business you’re in, we’ll have case studies that apply to you and your clients.

3. Tell me some of the high end products we will be testing and reviewing?

Our goal is to test most of the higher end training products. You know, the ones that require an investment. This is a priority for us because we know how expensive these courses can be and it would be nice to see some third party neutral reviews prior to shelling out hundreds and or thousands of dollars.

We won’t be testing all of the WSO’s and Forum Special Offers that come out. There are just too many. However when some of them come around that are promoted heavily and get a lot of attention, we will test those.

And we will also be conducting regular surveys of our members to see which training products they would like to see tested and reviewed.

The same goes for software and outsourcing services. We will be testing most of the major software and services and anything new that comes along that gets a lot of hype. And again, we will be testing additional stuff that our member’s want to see tested when the demand is high enough.

In addition to the regular case studies we conduct, we will also be holding bi-weekly group coaching webinars for our members. These will consist of many things including:

– Additional training that we feel is important
– Q&A with our members
– Cover changes in SEO as they happen
– Live site analysis, etc…

And as if that wasn’t enough, we’ll also be adding training modules to the member’s area as we develop new methods that produce positive results.

4. If someone wants to find out more, what do they need to do?

Go to our website and opt-in to be notified of our launch date. We will be offering a special launch price at first so you don’t want to miss out on that. We’re looking to go live in a month so be sure to get on our notification list.

Finding Local Keywords | Local Keywords Research | How To SEO

Finding Local Keywords – Local Keywords Research – http://www.howtoseo.us

There are a million and one keyword research tools out there. And everyone of them claim to find the hidden gems that the other tools overlook.

I’ll admit, I have purchased dozens of these over the years! What can I say, I’m a sucker for good sales copy.

While some of them have some pretty cool features, I always end up just going back to the tried and true method of using Google’s own data. This tutorial shows the process that I use to discover the best KWs for any local client.

The best part is that these don’t cost a dime to use. They do, however, require a little time to compile a comprehensive list but once it’s done, you’ll have all the data you need for several months worth of content marketing.

Here are the three tools I use:

1. Google Trends http://www.google.com/trends/

2. Google KW Planner http://adwords.google.com/KeywordPlanner

3. Google Suggest Tool http://ubersuggest.org/

Step 1: Enter your seed KWs into the Trends tool and filter by location. You can go broad or narrow all the way down to a city level. I generally try to get as narrow as possible by going all the way to the city level. But there are times where there won’t be enough data so you have to widen the area by going up a level to a region. This is the hierarchy that I would follow:

city – region – state – country

In other words, look at city level first and if you have a good amount of data, then your golden. But if thereis little or no data, move up to region. If not enough there, move up to state, and so on.

Once you have a good data set to work with, take notes on the “Top” terms as well as the “Rising”. These will be used as seed KWs in the KW Planner.

And be sure to take advantage of the ability to compare up to 5 KWs at a time. You can get a great list of seed KWs based on their interest level in your target location.

Step 2: Go to the KW Planner and set the Targeting to your target city. Paste your list of KWs that you generated from Trends and click “Get Ideas”.

After it thinks for a moment you be served with two tabs, “Ad Group Ideas” and “Keyword Ideas”. Both of these tabs can provide valuable insights into the KWs that Google determines are relevant and in fact, the Ad Group Ideas can be used to help design website silo structure, but that is for another blog post!

Go to the Keyword Ideas tab and look at the results to get more of a feel for the related terms. Or just go ahead and export the list because next you’re going to want to go through the exported csv file and eliminate all of the KWs that aren’t relevant.

This can take a while! The csv file will usually contain about 800 KWs! After you filter them you may still end up with several hundred KWs.

Step 3: Go to Ubersuggest.org and enter your top level KW (usually the one with the highest search volume) along with you city name (i.e. insurance atlanta) and hit search. You’ll have to go through that list, too, but you’ll find some awesome KWs in there to target right away in an SEO campaign. Remember, always go for the low hanging fruit first.

Just click on the green + sign for each KW that you want to keep and then when you’re done you can copy the resulting list and add to your csv file in a separate tab.

Step 4: This is something I recently started doing that also gives great ideas. Take some of the local terms returned by Ubersuggest and do a Google search on them. Look at the top 2 or 3 sites in the Google results page and click through to the website. Copy the URL and go back to the KW Planner and paste into the field labeled “Your Landing Page”.

The results you get from these landing page queries are the KWs associated with the top ranked websites for your target terms! This is a great way to spy on the top ranked competitors. Think about it, they have already done a lot of the research, so you might as well model their work.

Download those as well and copy them into another tab of your Excel workbook.

By the way, I have to give credit to Dan Shure for this idea that he revealed in his recent article: http://www.advancedwebranking.com/blog/google-didnt-want-us-to-use-the-keyword-planner-this-way

Now you should have a comprehensive local keyword list that you can use for building a site and for content marketing. This also helps you to gain a good understanding of the market for that industry which will help you design better campaigns.

How To SEO: Local SEO Training | Semantic Mastery

Local SEO Training – http://semanticmastery.com
– Semantic Mastery

1. How does Local SEO differ from national or even international SEO?

Local SEO is optimizing for search queries and terms with local intent. Generally these types of searches are performed when someone is searching for a local business. For example, take out Chinese food, or plumbing contractor. Most people will also include the city name, known as the geographic modifier, to the query but that isn’t always the case. And Google has gotten really good at determining where the search is being performed, either through your IP location or, in the case of mobile devices, where you’re physically located at the time of the search. This is different than national or global SEO since the searches have a different intent.

2. What are some things you can do with Local SEO that you can’t do or won’t work in National SEO?

There are many sections to a SERP (Search Engine Results Page) depending on the search term. When it comes to local searches, there are 3 main sections: Ads, Organic, and Maps (with the occasional Carousel that appears at the top of the page commonly seen when searching for restaurants) The ads (A.K.A. AdWords) appear first, then usually 1 — 3 organic listings, and then the maps, followed by the remaining organic listings.

With local, you want to optimize to be placed in the maps listings. You know, the results with pins next to them, usually in a “7 Pack” and lettered A — G. Obviously you need a physical location to be ranked in the maps section.

Interestingly, when you search from a mobile device, the maps listings usually come up right after the ads with maybe an occasional single organic listing between them. This is important since more than 50% of searches are now done on mobile devices. This is why the best place to be is the maps section if you’re a local business.

Something else that’s unique to local SEO is citations. Citations are places where a business can list their NAP or Name, Address, & Phone Number. This includes local and national business directories as well as industry or niche specific directories. These citations are one of the primary ranking factors for maps listings. Some of the better known citation sources would be Yelp, Yellowpages, Angie’s List, etc.

3. Would you say local SEO is somehow easier?

It’s different. Similar, but still has its own challenges. In a way I would say yes, it can be easier but that truly depends on the market. Some industries are incredibly competitive even on a local level. For example, attorneys. They spend big bucks to be ranked at the top for their respective cities. But generally speaking, you can expect to see results from a local SEO campaign long before you’d see any for a national SEO campaign.

4. How can Semantic Mastery help SEO agents do local SEO better?

We provide training for all types of SEO including social and local optimization. Since I got my start in local and still much of my business is in the local realm, I stay on top of what works. We have methods that we use that can actually “blanket” a SERP with a client’s listings. Not just their website, but also their citations, YT videos, Hangouts, web 2.0’s, and social profiles like FB pages and LinkedIn company Pages. In our training, we show how to do this for clients for total market domination. It really is very powerful.

And with the new semantic web, there are ways to markup content using semantic markup such as Schema.org and RDFa that can really help a business to rank. These are some of the many things we cover in the member’s training.

Set Up a CDN Using Amazon CloudFront | How To SEO

Set Up a CDN Using Amazon CloudFront – http://www.howtoseo.us

Sometimes using a caching plugin alone isn’t enought to get your WordPress page speed to a reasonable level. Fortunately Amazon CloudFront can be used as an easy and affordable way to improve load times considerably.

To watch the first of two parts, go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1vtlxc14II

In this video, I show how to setup a CDN using Amazon CloudFront with about 10 minutes of work.

You will need:
– W3 Total Cache
– Amazon S3 Account (for CloudFront)
– Access to your Domain DNS Editor

Before you start, be sure to run a test on your site at http://gtmetrix.com
to create a point of reference.

1. Login to Amazon account
2. Click on name in top corner and then click on Security Credentials
3. Click Access Keys and copy the Access Key ID
4. Click the Show button for Secret Access Key (or retrieve if you already have one). Copy this key.
5. Go to WP – Performance – General Settings
6. Scroll to section marked CDN Type and select Amazon CloudFront from the Origin Pull area. Now check Enable – Save all settings
7. Performance – CDN – Scroll to Configuration
8. Enter Access Key ID and Secret Key from Amazon S3
9. Click Create Distribution

10. Go back to Amazon and navigate to CloudFront console
11. You should see the new Distribution in the Distribution List
12. Wait until the Status goes from In Progress to Active (10 min)
13. Click on the “i” icon and then copy the domain that has been assigned in the General tab

14. Go to your Cpanel, scroll to Domains section, and select Simple DNS Zone Editor
15. Create an alias in the Name field for the CNAME
Ex: cdn.domain.com
16. Enter the original URL from CloudFront in the CNAME field then click Add CNAME Record

17. Go back to CloudFront and click the “i” button, then edit under the General tab.
18. Enter your CNAME into the box labeled “Alternate Domain Names (CNAMEs)” then click the Yes Edit box in the bottom right corner

19. Return to W3 Total Cache to the CDN tab
20. Add the CNAME that you created in the box “Replace site’s hostname with:” #1. Then Save All Settings
21. Click Test CloudFront Distribution and it should turn green
22. Enable the settings to be cached and served by the CDN under the General settings area (same screen). Recommended settings are:

– Host attachments
– Host wp-includes/files
– Host theme files
– Host custom files

Save All Settings

Now just refresh your home page and right click to view page source. You should see most of your website files are pointing to your CDN URL.

NOTE: After step #21 it will take another 10 to 15 minutes before the Amazon server has fully deployed. During this time your site will appear broken. RELAX!!! It’ll be fine once the server fully deploys.

Now go check your site at GT Metrix to see how much of an improvement the CDN has made.

5 Steps For Improving Page Speed | How To SEO

5 Steps For Improving Page Speed – http://www.howtoseo.us

This video shows 5 quick and easy steps that you can take to speed up your WordPress site.

Page speed (load time) has been a ranking factor considered by Google since 2010: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2010/04/using-site-speed-in-web-search-ranking.html

While there is conflicting opinions regarding how much of a ranking factor page speed really is, one thing that all can agree on is that a fast loading page means a happier visitor. Happier visitors tend to stay on the site longer (high Time On Site).

On the other hand, a slow loading page annoys most people. That’s when they hit the “back” button (considered a bounce) and find another site.

And since we know that Bounce Rate and Time On Site are considered important for SEO ranking, then it stands to reason, in my opinion, that page speed IS a ranking factor.

One of the common problems for a lot of WordPress sites are that the themes don’t always load fast. Add to that the number and type of plugins and you can wind up with some really slow load times.

After testing many caching plugins and various page speed tweaks, I have boiled down a simple and quick way to speed load times considerably with about 5 minutes of work:

5 Steps For Improving Page Speed

1. Test Site Using GTMetrix.com
2. Optimize Images
3. Install W3 Total Cache
a. Enable Caching
b. Browser
4. Page
5. Optimize Database
a. Install GD Press Tools Plugin

Re-test with GTMetrix and you should have seen notable improvement. If more is still needed at this point, you can add a CDN (Content Delivery Network). I will be producing another training video about how to set a CDN up using Amazon CloudFront in my next installment.

Local SEO Training & Ranking Factors | How To SEO

Local SEO Training & Ranking Factors – http://www.howtoseo.us

In this video I show multiple examples of what is working right now for local SEO ranking.

I show the top ranked local business sites for their respective keywords (omitting any business directory sites like Yellowpages) and then a quick analysis of their backlink profiles.

You’ll quickly see a pattern emerge from this small cross section of sites. This is by no means a thorough analysis but it does strongly suggest that the to obtain the top position, a site’s link profile has to be almost keyword free.

That’s right, I DID JUST SAY THAT.

A keyword free link profile seems bass ackwards from all that we (SEOs) have known. But guys, from my research over the past week, I have seen more and more evidence of this.

In fact, I have seen sites with really strong [traditional] link profiles drop considerably while sites that, based on traditional SEO knowledge, had no business being in the top 20 ranking in the top 3!

Why is that? Well, according to this limited research shown in the video, it seems that MORE THAN 50% of anchor text should be URL or Brand anchors. Some of these examples are 100% brand and URL anchors WITH NO MENTION of the target keyword at all.

Go research these examples yourself. And while you’re at it, look at the link profiles for the sites near the bottom of page one (and even page two) for each of the search terms.

You’ll see that the more traditionally optimized sites, with higher quantity of links and more targeted keyword anchors, are being outranked by sites with little (and in some cases no) backlinks at all.

From a pure backlink profile perspective and ignoring on-page, it’s all about Brand and URL anchors. Period.

So, while I’m not claiming that I’ve cracked the Google code, I am suggesting that we stop building keyword anchors and instead focus on brand and URL and of course, better site structure and on-page optimization.

Content Syndication & Automation

Semantic Mastery started life in 2013 in order to pioneer the ‘New SEO’ also known as Web 3.0 or the Semantic Web.

In this Hangout, Semantic Mastery Supremo Bradley Benner talks about Content Syndication and Automation.

How To SEO: Social Signals as a Ranking Factor | Semantic Mastery

http://semanticmastery.com
– How To SEO: Social Signals as a Ranking Factor – Semantic Mastery

In this Hangout, we talk about social signals and their impact on SEO and search engine rankings. There has been a lot of debate about this topic and we want to add our two cents to the discussion.

Can social signals alone rank a site in Google search? Yes AND no…

In tests we have conducted, buying spam social signals (unrelated and/or from a non-interested crowd) to a well optimized post did not provide any SEO benefit.

But when we have targeted the proper audience with the same type of post and with the same level of optimization, we were able to rank the post. This is because it wasn’t just social signals that the post accrued. It also gained social links. Organic social links.

There is most certainly a difference. And when you combine natural (organic) social links with corresponding social signals (likes, +1’s, Retweets, etc), you also get targeted traffic to the post, which is also a positive ranking signal.

So the short answer is: IT DEPENDS. You can’t rank with SPAM social signals alone. But with targeted social signals, you most certainly can, but this is due in large part because of the natural links that will be created as a result.

Another positive effect that this social signals can have is the transfer of Domain Authority. Since most social media platforms have perfect (100) or near perfect Domain Authority, DA for your target property will increase. We have seen brand new sites increase from DA of 1 to a DA of 20+ in 30 days from just social signals alone!

How To Use Google Plus for Local Business

http://www.howtoseo.us
– Search Engine Optimization training and strategies that work.

I get asked by local business owners all the time “How can I use Google Plus to market my business?”

After answering this question a couple dozen times, I decided to create a training video on how to do this.

In this video, I show how to:

1. Locate G+ users based on geography, industry, or both.
2. Add people and businesses to custom circles.
3. Begin sharing valuable content to those circles.
4. Watch as people begin to add you back.
5. Gently pull them into your sales funnel.

The process I outline works every time and for any business. It doesn’t happen overnight, but you can expect to see results within 30 days if you stay consistent.

Once you’ve built your targeted circle base up, you’ll have a very specific audience at your fingertips. If done properly, you will have built rapport and be considered an authority for always sharing valuable resources.

This is when you can begin to introduce your products and/or services. Subtle calls to action work very well, such as “for more information come visit my website” or “we’re running a sale this weekend and you can find out more on our website”.

This way you’re not asking directly for the sale or appointment, but instead your providing additional information about what they’ve already proven to be interested in.

I have landed several marketing clients using this method and have helped some of my clients get similar results in their respective industries.

Creating Live Events in YouTube

http://www.howtoseo.us
– Search Engine Optimization training and strategies that work.

With the relatively new feature in YouTube, you can create a Live Event which uses the Google Hangouts On Air platform. The benefits to using these are:

You can optimize the Hangout ahead of time

You get the YouTube URL and the embed code before the broadcast

You can build links to it

You can embed it in a blog post or on a web page and then build links to those

With the ability to create the event ahead of time, you can manufacture a buzz around the event using a combination of links, embeds, and social signals. The more interest you create, the better they will rank.

I have been able to rank for some moderately competitive keywords by using this method. In fact, I’ve seen one of these rank within minutes of the broadcast going live.

In this video, I show how to enable the Live Event feature in YouTube and then give some suggestions on how to get the best results from syndication and promotion.

How To Join Google Hangouts

http://www.howtoseo.us
– Search Engine Optimization training and strategies that work.

Google Hangouts are a fun and amazing way to network and collaborate online. And they are quite easy to use once you’re setup properly.

In this video I show how easy it is to get setup to join Google Hangouts. There are only a few steps that you need to take to get ready:

1. Google account (Gmail)
2. Install the Hangout plugin
3. Webcam and microphone (headphones)
4. High speed internet connection

Then be sure to give you Gmail address to the person that is initiating the Hangout so they can send you the invitation.

Changing the Yoast RSS Feed Back to Dofollow

http://www.howtoseo.us
– Search Engine Optimization training and strategies that work.

In this video I show how to quickly and easily change the Yoast SEO RSS Feed settings back so that the attribution links are dofollow links.

In November of 2013, the Yoast developers decided that they were going to hard code the attribution link with the nofollow attribute. And they didn’t give us an option!

Well, if you’re intentionally syndicating your content for SEO purposes and your using your RSS feed to do it, then this has reduced the effectiveness of the inbound links produced by your feed.

So I have found a way to fix this with very little effort. This video will show you how.
